Wizards Draft Misery 2005: Andray Blatche

Written By Chris C-Ford ---- Wednesday, June 24, 2009

With the 49th pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards select Andray Blatche, Forward, High School.

"I'm just trying to figure out how in the world this guy wasn't taken in the first round," Jamison said after matching up against Blatche in a pickup game last week. (link)

Soon after being drafted Andray Blatche was shot. He was shot at 6am. The bullet barely missed his heart, most likely because he doesn't have one. This was probably after a night of clubbing all night. A few years later Blatche was caught picking up an undercover cop prostitute. Not good.
Blatche was drafted based on his size, athleticism, & potential. He has now been playing for 4 years and he is given playing time based on his size, athleticism, & potential. Every season Blatche shows flairs of brilliance, but just when you think he is going to be good, he falls right back down with bad play.
Andray is always criticized for not working hard, and I really don't believe him when he says it is untrue. He is pretty immature for a 4 year NBA vet. And God help me when I see him try to dribble on the fast break...

Diagnosis: 75% Bust 25% WTF

Where is he now?

Blatche is still on the Wizards (for now). If the roster remains as it is now, he will be playing a lot of minutes at PF and C.
