Fabricio Oberto's Heart Condition

Written By Chris C-Ford ---- Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Throughout the years we have seen several basketball players with heart problems. Here in DC, Etan Thomas had open heart surgery to fix a leaky valve. Eddy Curry had an irregular heartbeat and was semi-forced to take a DNA test. Hank Gathers & Reggie Lewis ended up collapsing and dying from heart problems.

Another player with a heart condition, an irregular heartbeat, is Fabricio Oberto. Oberto missed games for the Spurs because of his heart problem in which he would get weird feelings in his chest during some practices.

"Each time, he would visit the Spurs medical staff, which would perform a procedure to electroshock his heart back into time. Typically, he would miss one or two games while doctors continued to monitor him." --San Antonio Express News

That doesn't sound fun!

Back in June of 2009, Oberto had surgery in order to fix "the electrical system" of his heart. While he has rehabbed and the doctors have said he can return to exercise, it is unknown as to what will happen in the future.

What the Wizards know and don't know are unknown right now, but more info will come out soon.

There is a chance that if something happens regarding his heart Oberto will just retire, but the Wizards seem willing to take a chance on a solid big man. Hopefully, all goes well for Fabricio.
