In case you missed the Michael Lee articles from the other day, he wrote a big one in the Sunday paper, and one on the Insider, all about DeShawn Stevenson, who has been MIA this offseason.
Last season when Stevenson was working on his big 2nd place consecutive game streak (he never would have passed Tayshaun Prince) it came out in the media that Stevenson had told coach Tapscott that he would like to be removed from the starting lineup to help the team. At the time it sounded like a valiant move by a guy who realized he had lost his mojo.
It turns out that Tapscott actually benched Stevenson, and lied to the media in respect for Stevenson's hard work. Twist!
The article talks about how Stevenson was hurt all year and played through it because he didn't want to let the team down (according to him) So maybe this year, after all the training and all the healing, we will once again see Mr. Fitty instead of Mr. Two Fitty (his former weight)...
But more likely we will see Mr. Nikky, Mr. Randy, & Mr. Mikey...

According to the Washington Post, DeShawn Stevenson claims that while loud gunshots & screams echoed through the night, he was fast asleep. He must have been pretty tired. I guess it is a pretty good excuse. It has worked before.

In an unusual case in a Scarborough, Ontario, courtroom, Jan Luedecke was acquitted of sexual assault after a judge ruled he was asleep during the attack -- a disorder known as "sexsomnia."
This guy sexually assaulted a girl and claimed he was sleep assaulting and it worked. He also said it had happened to him 4 times before. Perhaps DeShawn should have tried his excuse before.
He only suspected he had had sex after using the bathroom and discovering he was still wearing a condom, court heard. He confessed to police.
Maybe DeShawn has "shootsomnia" Anyways, yesterday there were several items stolen. Some of them are now at my house. If anyone asks, I was sleeping when I stole them.
Also, No one fired shots back at the guy, but somehow he has a bullet in his leg. Either he is a terrible shot, or its a lie. "Harry! You're alive...and you're a horrible shot"

The other NBA player involved in the Deshawn Stevenson incident was former NBA player Brandon Hunter. According to original reports he was a Cavs player, which is pretty much incorrect.
Brandon Hunter (Forward) was cut by the Cavs before the season started last year, and was cut by the Bucks before the season started the year before. His last real team (reported correctly by the Washington Post) was the Magic, where he played in 2004 for about half a season. He played a similar amount of games for Boston who drafted him with the 56th pick in 2003.
Hunter appears to be on the current roster for a team in the Italian league called Angelico Biella, the same team that Taylor Coppenrath (Vermont) played for last year. Before that he spent some time in Italy, Greece, and in Sioux Falls for the D-League.
At 6'7" and 255lbs, he isn't ideal NBA size, plus he likes to shoot too much. (get it) I don't think we will be hearing anything else from him ever again.

I swear I'm not obsessed with DeShawn Stevenson...
Charley Rosen from Fox Sports had the following review of the Wizards signing Stevenson.
An acrobatic scorer in the lane with an improving jump shot, Stevenson is also an excellent defender — one of the precious few semi-stoppers the Wizards have. Indeed, he's one of the league's most underrated players.
Grade: B+ (grade based on the importance of the signing, not overall game)
Acrobatic...once every 41 games
Scorer...eh
Improving Jump Shot...hopefully
Defender...He may be the Wizards best defender, but thats like being the best Keystone Cop...too old...uh...the best D-League player...but he is pretty good
Underated...nope, frozen waffles with anchovies are underrated, DeShawn is rated just right.
Here is how I would have worded it:
An occasional scorer with an off balanced, often rushed, fade away jump shot, Stevenson is also a pretty good defender — the only semi-stoppers the Wizards have. Indeed, he's one of the league's players.
Grade: A+
I'm starting to get the feeling that DeShawn is gonna have a breakout year...
PS: If the big 3 is scoring so much per game, how come DeShawn averaged under 3 assists per game? (tied with Trenton Hassell & over 100 players have better assist numbers)
