What Is This Music? Cowboy Troy Game Preview: Wizards @ Mavericks

At 0-6, coming off their worst loss of the season to the "blah" Bobcats, the Washington Wizards are sort of a joke.  That is why when I saw this next artist from Dallas I thought it fit in just great with the DC basketball team.

I mean what in the blue hell is this?  Country music rap.  I just..can't...

Anyway's here is Cowboy Troy who, according to the song  "I Play Chicken With The Train", was at the CMA awards once and something about Tim McGraw.  I think he also hosts some show with Jewel like American Idol for country singers.

While this may be the farthest thing from hip-hop or rap or whatever, it wins! ENJOY!

Oh, basketball.  Sorry I was playing chicken with the train.  If the Wizards played chicken with a train, they would lose before the train even started moving.  ZING!

The Wizards are again looking for their first win (cut & paste) in Dallas on Wednesday night.  The Mavs lost to the Bobcats a few days ago, but at 4-4 are a much better team than the Wizards even without Dirk Nowitzki who is "rehabbing" or taking a Shaq-like vacation or something.

OJ Mayo of all people is their leading scorer at 21 points per game and the Mavs have 4 players, including 100 year old dinosaur Vince Carter, who are scoring 13 points or more per game.  The Wiz...Noneski.

After many of the (misguided) fans that were optimistic at the beginning of the year to "keep it close" until Wall & Nene (them?) returned turned negative last night, I don't expect this game to crush the team any worse...but...it is the Wizards...

Coo Coo Cal Game Preview: Bucks @ Wizards

Last season when the Wizards played the Bucks, we used the same song.  But I don't think there are any other rappers from Milwaukee except this one hit wonder, Coo Coo Cal.  Plus the Bucks are playing in DC so BAM!


Last season the Wiz faced the Bucks early in the season at 0-2 and it is looking no different this season. The 0-3 Wizards are looking to get their first win of the season, in front of the home crowd.  The Bucks have already won 2 games so far.

In the short season last year the Wiz lost 3 out of 4 to the Bucks and this season the Bucks backcourt has taken a large step forward with Monta Ellis having all offseason to gel with teammates.  In the one Wizards win, Ellis was on the Bucks, and he finished with 31 points.

Crawford had 32 points in that previous meeting but right now J-Craw looks like he is shaken up from an ankle injury.  While he may try to play, his injury could be a big factor for his playing time like it was on Wednesday against the Celtics.

That means someone else has to step up...in the backcourt...

The Bucks backcourt has the skills to dominate AJ Price & the Wizards' shaky point guard offense and defense.  Therefore, the Wiz are going to have to depend on Kevin Seraphin inside to set a tone for the game.

One of the X-factors for the Bucks is Mike Dunleavy.  The Wizards usually all go into the paint on a drive but can't get back out to cover shooters.  I expect Dunleavy to hit a few backbreaking shots if the Wiz don't keep close to him.

Beal had a decent game against the Celtics, and is looking to repeat that performance...AJ Price needs to stop jacking and turning it over and start running the offense.

Gang Starr Game Preview: Wizards @ Celtics

You know after last week's Bog story about Jordan Crawford and his "steez" that we had to go with a fitting song.  And what a perfect coincidence that the Wiz are playing the Celtics, from Boston, the same area where Gang Starr is from.  So here is your game preview song:

True this song was after the original group broke up, but Guru is from Mass, so he counts....So who will be the Wizards Guru?

Last week against the Celtics the "teacher" was the Steez man himself Jordan Crawford.  J-Craw chill freshed his way to 21 points and along with Kevin Seraphin who shot 8 for 9 from the field, the two were the main reasons the Wizards had a chance to win it at the end.

Seraphin was a game-time decision, and he may not be at 100%, but his unique style of play and post game provides a challenge to the Celtics front court.  I don't really know how he scores, but somehow his goofy play style and hooks find their way into the hoop.

Last Friday Paul Pierce led the way for the Celtics, and the way the Wizards play the 3 ball always seems to kill them.  However this game I look for Rajon Rondo to step up his game.  He was fairly quiet last matchup with 12 points and 12 assists.  I don't expect him to repeat that performance facing the weak backcourt of AJ Price and Janero Pargo.

Also...will Bradley Beal show up?  I think he is ready for a semi-breakout game...ready...but willing?

Musical Game Preview: Celtics @ Wizards

The Boston Celtics are hypocrites.  Several years ago when they tanked the season on purpose to get Ray Allen & Kevin Garnett, they were the bullies of the NBA.  Now that Ray Allen left their "unfair" group of players to join another "unfair" group of players, the Heat, the remaining Celtics players are upset.  Get over it.  That is how you were formed.  Ray Allen wants a championship, not to run a nursing home.

So that is why Boston's own, Akrobatik, and his song Hypocrite was chosen for Saturday's matchup and home opener for the Washington Wizards against the Boston Celtics.


The Wizards are coming off a tough loss to the Cavs where they put up a great comeback and had a 4th quarter lead, and the Celtics are coming off being smacked in the face by Ray Allen and the Heat.  The Celtics are not going to be happy, but they are playing a game on Friday night, where the Wizards have had several days to rest and scout the Celts.  Hopefully for the Wiz, the Celtics take out their frustrations on the lowly Bucks and overlook their second game in two days.

Bradley Beal needs to show up and be aggressive.  He looked sheepish in his NBA debut and he passed up a few shots that the coaching staff would probably like him to take.  While he is a rookie, he is the one who should have no conscience firing up three-pointers, not AJ Price & Trevor Ariza..ug...

Can Earl Barron repeat his efforts from Tuesday night?  Okafor right now is all they have for a big man with Nene & Seraphin sidelined, and he is old, slow, and not very athletic.  While Barron is no superstar, he did have a solid game in limited minutes.  He showed some length, hustle, and he worked hard in the paint.  I don't know if he can keep that up, but if he does the Wizards will be better off.

Rebounds anyone? Seriously! After Anderson Varejo outworked, outphysicaled and outhustled the enire Washington Wizards roster on route to 20+ boards, and 14 offensive rebounds, the Wiz are going to have to do something that NBA players don't enjoy doing.  Box out!  The Celtics don't have anyone as "crafty" as AV but they do tip out a lot of rebounds.

Who is going to stop Rondo?  Kevin Garnett is going to take his 17 foot jumpers, and please just let him.  Pierce will be Pierce.  But the X-Factor in this game is going to be Rondo.  He is way better than every single guard on the Wizards roster and looks to have a big game.  The Wizards may also have problems with Jeff Green and Courtney Lee who could make some turning point plays in the contest.

It is going to be a tough task to take 1 of the 2 back to back games upcoming against the Celtics and their best shot is on Saturday at home in front of the dozens (AND DOZENS) of Wiz fans and the millions (AND MILLIONS) of idiots in green who come out.

Musical Game Preview: Wizards @ Cavs

I Can't Stand The Rain...

On Tuesday night, the Washington Wizards open up their 2012-13 season in Cleveland against the Cavaliers.  Meanwhile, back in the DC area and all along the east coast, Hurricane Sandy has caused millions of people to lose power and be tortured by the rain.  Typically, hurricane or no hurricane, it is usually a good thing for Wizards fans to not have the ability to watch the game on television.  Will this season be the same?  Beep Beep...Who got the keys to the jeep?


Quiet Storm...

The Wizards opponents to start the season are the Cleveland Cavaliers.  In last season's shortened 66 game season, the Cavs finished with just 21 wins.  That did however happen to be more wins than the Washington Wizards.

But while the reigning rookie of the year Kyrie Irving is looking to improve in his second season in the NBA, the Wizards John Wall enters his third season coolin' on the trainers table for an indefinite amount of time.

The question is, has the rest of the Wizards roster improved enough to take out an equally bad team?  Or will injuries and non 100% players going to be a big problem for the Wiz?  We do know that Wall missing time is taking some of the anticipation out of the Wizards season...can they push forward with a quiet storm?


Rainy Dayz For Rookies?

The Cavs and Wizards both have equally questionable rosters.  Alonzo Gee is a starter in the NBA?  But one of the keys to the game will be rookies.  The Cavs are starting 4th pick rookie Dion Waiters at shooting guard, while the Wizards are going with 3rd pick rookie Bradley Beal.  This looks to be the most intriguing matchup of the game for both Wizards and Cavs fans alike.  Will the rookies shine, or will they just prove that more Rainy Dayz are ahead for both organizations...


Make It Rain

With Wall out, Seraphin out, Nene a game time decision, who on the Wizards will step up and combat the hurt from the injuries?  AJ Price and Martell Webster are the prime candidates.  Ariza will get the starting nod over Webster but Webster may see a majority of the time.  Both Web and Price had good games in the preseason and don't seem to be afraid to step up and take charge.

And there is always Jordan "Swag" Crawford who isn't afraid to fire up more shots than Drew Brees throws in a game.  Can he stop the rain or will he just make it rain jumpers?  You know Jan Vesely will make it rain airballs.  But will he airball more layups and dunks.  Singleton will make the stat sheet rain with 0's and 1's.


Change Just Like The Weather...

The Wizards have a slightly new looking roster this season.  Okafor, Ariza, Price, Webster, Pargo and Barron are all new to the team this season.  A lot was made (by the organization) about the ending to last season with a flurry of wins.  However, obviously it wasn't comforting enough to not make some wholesale changes to the surrounding payers.



And so the season begins tonight.  It may be really hard to get on the Wizards making the playoffs bus, and one game isn't going to define the whole season, but a win tonight against a pretty young team will be a good way to get started.
